International Women's Day (March 8) celebrates the achievements of women around the world. It is also a day to promote actions to reduce the gender equity gap.
We are all entitled to a fair wage, to live free from violence, to show leadership and to have the same opportunities and chances of success.
Even in 2022, there is still a long way to go for women, girls and people of diverse gender identities to achieve equity. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has only worsened these inequalities. According to the Canadian Women's Foundation, "the isolation measures to counter the spread of the virus have had four defining gendered impacts for women, including:
- An increased risk of gender-based violence
- increased economic stress
- increased burden of childcare and household chores
- reduced access to support services.
As a female business owner, I believe in female potential and I am aware of the privilege I have had of being able to express mine through my friendships, my family, my hobbies and my professional accomplishments.
The Terracotta Club therefore wishes to help local organizations in Canada to support other women, girls and people of diverse gender identities who face poverty, violence, discrimination and other forms of inequality.
That's why 5% of our sales for the whole month of March will be donated to the Canadian Women's Foundation..
